Imagine Music Festival Continues Growth, While Remaining True to Their Local Roots

Imagine Music Festival started as a mid-sized event in 2014.

More than 20,000 people came to Historic Old Fourth Ward Park that first year, enjoying a showcase of local and regional artists spread across two days.

Several DJs appearing at the inaugural Imagine fest were already familiar faces to Atlanta's electronic music scene; having previously performed at weekly parties organized by Imagine's parent company, Iris Presents, Inc.

Until Imagine, frequent visits to the Rush Lounge off Buford Highway were necessary if an individual wanted to see Leah Culver (the artist formerly known as MK Ultra), Ployd, Eddie Gold and many more. Imagine marked the first time that all these personalities were in one place at one time. This was a fact celebrated by event organizers. Imagine wasn't Tomorrowworld, EDC Vegas or Ultra Miami. Imagine wasn't an international festival. Imagine was an Atlanta festival, put together by Atlanta residents.

Imagine outgrew its first home in two years.

In 2016, the Iris-sponsored fete expanded to three days, introduced camping, found new digs south of Atlanta and featured even bigger names on multiple stages.

60,000 passed through Atlanta Motor Speedway's gates over the course of three hot days in August last year.

There were quite a few complaints, mostly about the heat and water station locations. But gripes about the lineup were limited. Hometown favorites like Bryson Taylor, Revamp ATL, Reliquary and Kallan HK shared the marquee with Borgore, Dillon Francis, Cosmic Gate and Benny Benassi.

2016 showed that, despite their continued growth, Imagine's local roots run deep.

Internationally-known entertainers such as deadmau5 and Tiesto are new additions to Imagine's roster this year. Still, nearly four dozen DJs booked for Imagine 2017 boast a direct tie to Atlanta.

The formula established by Imagine Music Festival in 2014 --balancing major acts with local stars-- remains a winner for many music fans.

Imagine 2017 is scheduled for September 22 - 24, 2017 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton. Tickets, and camping passes, are available now starting at $163. Visit www.imaginefestival.com for details.
