Tomorrowland Says "Technical Malfunction" Behind Fire at Satellite Event in Barcelona, Spain

Tomorrowland organizers say a technical malfunction caused their main stage in Barcelona to go up in flames, Saturday night.

Twitter lit up with users posting video of the fire shortly before 11:30PM in Brussels.

DJ Armin van Buuren was on stage at the main Tomorrowland festival, telling attendees about the live broadcast from Belgium to seven satellite locations across the globe. The satellite events, branded "Tomorrowland Unite," were billed as a chance for electronic music fans to experience Tomorrowland without being there.

In addition to Barcelona, Unite events were held in Dubai, Germany, Israel, Lebanon, Malta, and South Korea.

Following a closed-door meeting, lasting roughly thirty minutes, with Tomorrowland top brass, spokesperson Debby Wilmsen emerged and gave a brief statement.

"Tonight, 29 July 2017, the UNITE Barcelona Main Stage caught fire due to a technical malfunction," Wilmsen said. "Thanks to the professional intervention of the authorities all 22,000 visitors were evacuated safely and without reports of injuries. Local authorities will follow up and continue the investigation together with the Spanish organisation of UNITE."

Georgia Unfiltered is presently at the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium. We will update this story as new details emerge.
