New Monster Movie Filming in Atlanta Pits Godzilla Against Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah

(Godzilla returns to theaters in 2019.)
Don't be alarmed if you see a 355-foot tall, dinosaur-like creature that breathes fire bounding around town soon. It's all part of the latest blockbuster movie being filmed in Atlanta.

2014's Godzilla, produced by Legendary pictures, earned $529 million against a budget of $160 million. The film's financial and critical success prompted Warner Brothers to sign off on a sequel called Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

The latest installment in the Godzilla franchise follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Principal photography began earlier this week on the Michael Dougherty-directed motion picture starring Academy Award nominees Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is currently scheduled for release in March 2019, and will be distributed in 3D and 2D and in select IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.
