Atlanta Annexes Publix, Wal-Mart, and Other Businesses Along Cascade Road

At its 20 June 2016 meeting, the Atlanta City Council unanimously approved a series of annexations in the Cascade Road community.

Cascade Manor, Cascade Falls, the Cascade Business Corridor, Danforth Road, and Martin's Park all become part of Atlanta, 1 July 2016.

Included in the annexation request is the entire Cascade Crossing shopping center, anchored by Publix; as well as the Cascade Wal Mart and other commercial properties. These properties were among some of the most valuable in unincorporated south Fulton County, totaling 220.8 acres worth $50,535,270.

This $50 million annexation is the largest to date, since Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 514, the so-called South Fulton cityhood bill, into law. College Park is expected to approve another large commercial annexation at its 20 June 2016 city council meeting. This College Park annexation is for 142.7 acres valued at $32 million.

Under House Bill 514, property owners and registered voters have until 1 July 2016 to annex out of the proposed city of South Fulton before the borders are locked for the November referendum.
