Atlanta-Based Minority Youth Matters Group Schedules Protests Against NASCAR's Lack of Diversity

An Atlanta-based minority youth group says NASCAR suffers from a deficit of diversity.

The Minority Youth Matters Movement (MYMM) hope to change that through a series of protests in Atlanta, Waycross, and twelve other cities on 20 September 2015.

"Minority leaders from across the nation are working together to form a Motorsports Association to collaborate with sponsoring corporations and to partner in developing a comprehensive diversity program," MYMM said in a statement. "NASCAR has had sixty (60) plus years to incorporate diversity in their sport and failed on numerous occasions."

The Minority Youth Matters Movement has indicated they are prepared to boycott the corporate sponsors of NASCAR in order to force the sport to conform to diversity and inclusion.

Founded in 1948, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (more commonly known as NASCAR) governs multiple auto-racing events including the Sprint Cup Series, the Xfinity Series and the Camping World Truck Series.

Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Hampton, hosts three NASCAR events annually.
