New Bill Would Allow Legal, Law-abiding Gun Permit Holders to be Detained by Police

A new bill sponsored by state Senator Steve Henson (D - Tucker) would allow police to detain legal, law-abiding weapons carry permit holders.

Senate Bill 73 is a short 2-page proposal, but its effects are far reaching.

Senate Bill 73 repeals the Georgia law that reads, "A person carrying a weapon shall not be subject to detention for the sole purpose of investigating whether such person has a weapons carry license."

If the legislation becomes law, police officers and sheriff's deputies across the state could detain a weapons carry permit holder until it is confirmed that the person is legally allowed to carry a weapon.

Senate Bill 73 was referred to the Committee on Public Safety.
