Fayette County School Board Member Resigning to Run for State School Superintendent

The Fayette Citizen reported last month that School Board member Mary Kay Bacallao recently announced her intentions to resign from the body in order to run for State School Superintendent [Nelms, Ben (25 December 2013). Another appointed BoE member in Fayette’s future. Fayette Citizen. Retrieved on 2 January 2014].

Bacallao joins a growing field that includes former DeKalb County School Board member Nancy Jester and state Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan.

Mary Kay Bacallao, who holds a doctorate, has been a strong opponent of Common Core; arguing in an Atlanta Journal Constitution op-ed piece that Governor Deal's claims about Common Core don’t add up.
