There it is; the meat and potatoes of House Bill 35, sponsored by Representatives Paul Battles, Bubber Epps, Willie Talton, Tom Taylor, Tom Weldon and Tom Kirby.

In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school murders (Let's not dress it up. They were murders.), I've pointed out to others that the President receives protection from armed guards at all times. People frequently say children are our most precious resource, so I've wondered aloud what makes the President's life worthy of more protection than the lives our most precious resource; our children.

The answer to that rhetorical question is simple.

The President's life is not worth any more or any less than the lives of America's children. The President's life is worth getting protection from armed guards, if only for the fact that we have crazy people out there who want to kill him. Likewise, the lives of America's children are worthy of armed protection because we have crazy folks who want to kill kids.
