Democrats Slam Sheffield While Ignoring David Scott's Own Residency Issues

Take a gander at this tweet from the Georgia Democratic Party.

Republican congressional hopeful Maria Sheffield is vying for the right to face off against Democrat John Barrow in the November General Election. Georgia Democrats want to know if Maria Sheffield lives in the district she seeks to represent in the United States Congress. That would be very valid question, if the Democrats did not conveniently ignore the fact that one of their own congressional candidates does not live in the district he seeks to represent.

It is very well-known that Congressman David Scott (D - Atlanta) does not live in the 13th congressional district. Scott lives in Inman Park, but he represents Clayton, Cobb, Douglas, Fayette, and Henry counties in the House of Representatives.

Constitutionally, there are only three requirements to serve in the U.S. House:

"No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen."

An individual does not have to live in the district they represent in Congress. The individual simply has to be an inhabitant of the state they represent in Congress.

But the Democrats are making an issue of Maria Sheffield's residency. That's fine. Just don't be surprised when an intrepid blogger starts exposing Democrats who don't live in their districts.
