Obama Justice Department Orders Valdosta to Replace Black Teachers with White Ones

Irony - an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.

This is irony.

The Obama Justice Department, led by the first black Attorney General of the United States, handed down a directive to Valdosta City School System; replace black teachers with white ones.

The Valdosta City School System is working frantically to replace more black teachers with white.

It's a federal order from the Department of Justice in a 40 year old lawsuit. The consent order demands VCS to replace more black teachers with white teachers to even out the ratio and correct a racial disparity.

At J.L. Newbern Middle School five black teachers still have to be replaced with white to meet racial requirements.

I'll admit that I had good laugh at the Justice Department, which is currently organized under both the first black President and the first black Attorney General, requiring a local school system to hire more white teachers. But after my laughter subsided, I recognized the Obama Justice Department's edict as yet another case of a heavy-handed federal government interfering in local affairs.

The federal government should not use the law to ensure diversity, especially when it comes to educating our children.

In the thirteen years I attended school, from kindergarten through 12th grade, I had good black teachers and horrible white teachers. I had horrible white teachers, and good black teachers. Good teachers and bad teachers transcend race.

A good teacher should not lose their job because they're black. A bad teacher should not keep their job because they're white. But that is exactly what we're seeing down in Valdosta. The federal government is encouraging discrimination in our schools.

And that ain't right.

It looks like we're still waiting on that post-racial society Obama promised us four years ago.
