A Dismal Day for Democracy in House District 60

Tuesday, February 7th marked a dismal day for democracy in state House district 60.

Voters in that district were asked to choose a new representative after a vacancy occurred in the seat.

Three candidates --Theresa F. Middlebrooks, Latrenka R. Riley, and Keisha Sean Waites-- put their names on the ballot.

One candidate, Keisha Sean Waites, won the February 7th special election in House district 60 with 54.2% of the vote.

Only 592 people cast ballots in the special election. Out of 16,810 registered voters in House district 60, only 592 bothered to participate in the special election.

That is utterly pathetic.
