Legislative Panel To Study Combining MARTA & Other Regional Transit Agencies

Wednesday morning, the Transit Governance Study Committee will meet to study the feasibility of combining all of Atlanta's regional public transportation entities into an integrated regional transit body.

The meeting is scheduled for 10AM and is expected to last 90 minutes.

The Transit Governance Study Committee was created by the Georgia General Assembly during the 2010 legislative session. Among its members are Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, MARTOC chairman Jill Chambers, Georgia Regional Transit Authority Executive Director Jannine Miller and MARTA General Manager Beverly Scott.

The Transit Governance Study Committee is charged with submitting a preliminary report to the Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House by December 31, 2010. A final report, featuring recommendations and proposed legislation, from the committee is required by August 1, 2011.
