The following is a press release from the Democratic Party of Georgia:
The Democratic Party of Georgia announced the kick-off to their 2010 Coordinated Campaign by opening over 10 campaign offices throughout the state this week. This kick-off represents the state party’s largest field effort in history, as community leaders, elected officials, and Georgia citizens unite to elect Democratic candidates.
“This campaign will cover every inch of Georgia,” said Shirley Franklin, former mayor of Atlanta and Campaign Chair. “We will have hundreds of volunteers mobilizing tens of thousands of voters, each pledging to elect leaders that will create jobs, fix our public schools, and make Georgia work again.”
Today’s grand opening of field offices is not the first step, however. Over 100 volunteers have been making phone calls for weeks, with several additional offices expected to open soon. “Our steering committee has been working overtime to build the momentum for November,” said Franklin. “We’re working hard to turn Georgia blue.”
In addition to Shirley Franklin, the 2010 Coordinated Campaign steering committee includes Vice Chairs Dan Halpern and Amy Morton, Senator Lester Jackson, Senator Nan Orrock, Senator Jason Carter, Rep. Calvin Smyre, Rep. Winfred Dukes, Rep. Pedro Marin, Rep. Rashad Taylor, Sheriff Thomas Brown, Richard Ray of the AFL-CIO, Sally Rosser, Ken Britt, Paul Horning, Wyc Orr, Lauren Benedict, Jan Bryson and Melanie Goux.
