National GOP Enters 8th Congressional District Race With Robo Calls

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) must smell a winner with its attempt to link 8th district Congressman Jim Marshall with embattled New York Democrat Charlie Rangel.

The Macon Telegraph reported Saturday that the NRCC fired off a round of robo calls critical of campaign cash contributed to Marshall by Rangel.

The National Republican Congressional Committee began targeting U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Macon, this week with a series of telephone calls “with an important message about corruption in Washington.” The Republicans accused Marshall of taking $37,000 in campaign money from U.S. Rep. Charlie Rangel, who faces House ethics charges.

Marshall, for his part, has moved further to the right in his re-election campaign.

During a recent town hall meeting with constituents, Marshall called the health care reform package backed by President Obama a "disaster." Marshall went on to say that he'd vote to repeal the bill [Stucka, Mike (2010-8-6). Marshall: Health care reform 'a disaster'. Macon Telegraph. Retrieved on 2010-8-16.].
