Quote of the Day: the Tony Center edition

"While this letter is certainly going to raise eyebrows, I think people are just going to ignore it. There are several party chairs who believe it's the Democratic Party's responsibility to tell an elected official when he's out of line with Democratic ideals."

-Chatham County Democratic Party chairman Tony Center responding to the "cease and desist" letter from state Democratic Party chairman Jane Kidd demanding that local Democratic officials stop their criticisms of Congressman John Barrow or resign their positions in the Democratic Party.

No argument there. The letter certainly raised my eyebrows, and I'm ignoring it.

It's important to remember that the county Democratic committee elects the state Democratic committee members, and the state Democratic committee members elects the state Democratic Party chairman.

There isn't a single member of the Georgia Democratic Party leadership who would continue to hold their position of power without the support of the county Democratic Party chairs. And as I've said before, without the support of the county chairs, any Democrat is as good as dead politically -- including the Party leadership itself.
