It's official.
State School Superintendent Kathy Cox has a big bulls-eye painted on her back as she seeks a third term in office.
The Rome News-Tribune reports that the director of secondary curriculum for the Bartow County School System is challenging Cox in the Republican primary.
John D. Barge, who lives in the Kingston area of Floyd County, has announced he is running as a Republican for state school superintendent, a post currently held by Kathy Cox.
“This campaign is about getting back to the basics and improving the education of our children,” he said. “We can no longer afford to sacrifice our children for goals that do not produce positive results in education. We have a moral obligation to prepare our young people for the future and the jobs that will be there for them.”
