Hodges Campaign Downplays Union Endorsement Of Rob Teilhet

Thursday morning, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 613 endorsed state Rep. Rob Teilhet in his campaign to win the Democratic nomination for Attorney General [McCants, Keith (2010-2-18). Press Release: Rob Teilhet Earns Big Endorsement From Labor Community. Peanut Politics. However, the campaign of Ken Hodges sought to downplay the announcement with claims that they were shut out of the union's endorsement process.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the Hodges campaign asserted that officials with IBEW Local 613 did not meet with them to talk about gaining the union's backing.

"They [IBEW Local 613] have yet to meet with our campaign and speak with our candidate about his positions," said Jonathan Williams, communications director for Ken Hodges campaign.

The typical endorsement procedure for candidates seeking union support includes an interview with labor officials followed by a vote from the Committee On Political Education (C.O.P.E.). That, according to the Hodges campaign, did not happen.

"We appreciate the IBEW's opinion, and we wish them the best in their political efforts. Ken Hodges has a strong record supporting the rights and safety of Georgia's working families," Williams said.
