Oops! Augusta Chronicle Declares Earnie Smith New Senator From 22nd District

Wednesday's Augusta Chronicle reported on the swearing-in ceremony of newly-elected state Representative Earnie Smith. However, the article's headline gave Smith a job promotion that he didn't even apply for.

Four people --former state Representative Hardie Davis, Harold V. Jones, Sandra Scott and Taylor Bryant-- are running in the January 5th special election to fill the state Senate seat formerly held by Ed Tarver. Tarver resigned after he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

Despite the errant headline by the Augusta Chronicle, Earnie Smith was sworn in Tuesday as the new state representative from the 122nd district. Smith was the only candidate who qualified to run for the seat once occupied by Hardie Davis.
