Georgia Unemployment Rising At Alarming Rate

Today, the state Department of Labor announced that Georgia's unemployment rate is the highest it's been in twenty-five years [Source: Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, "Georgia umemployment hits 25-year high", December 18, 2008].

And yesterday's announcement by Cooper Tire that they'll be closing their Albany plant won't help that reduce the number of unemployed in this state [Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution, "Cooper Tire to close Albany, Ga., plant", December 17, 2008].

The economy and curtailing the loss of jobs in Georgia are definitely two issues that will dominate both the 2009 legislative session as well as the 2010 gubernatorial election.
