PSC Candidate Jim Powell Endorsed By Rome & Savannah Newspapers

Democrat Jim Powell received a boost to his campaign for a seat on the Public Service Commission as he picked up the endorsements of the Rome News-Tribune and the Savannah Morning News.

In a column appearing in Monday's paper, the Savannah Morning News editorial board referenced Jim Powell's past history as an official with the U.S. Department of Energy saying that he has the "skills that will help the state Public Service Commission and consumers."

Mr. Powell's background as a former regional director for the U.S. Department of Energy means he is extremely familiar with issues affecting consumers, businesses and industries - but the first-time candidate owes nothing to anybody.

Jim Powell's position as an experienced outsider is what Georgians need on the Public Service Commission.

In their endorsement of Powell, the Rome News Tribune also lauded the Democrat's past experience with the Dept. of Energy, but they also criticized Republican Lauren "Bubba" McDonald.

His Republican opponent is a well-known politician who changes both his name on the ballot and his party affiliation to try to catch whatever wind is blowing. This time he thought the wind would be at his back and instead it’s in his face. [Source: Rome News-Tribune, "It's winner take all", November 23, 2008]

Democrat Jim Powell and Republican Lauren "Bubba" McDonald are competing for the district 4 Public Service Commission seat left vacant when out-going Commissioner Angela Speir decided not to seek re-election.
