On this day in 1924, the 39th President of the United States was born...

In case you didn't know, today is the 84th birthday of the man from Plains, Georgia; the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter.

Before serving the nation as President, Jimmy Carter served Georgia as a state Senator from the 14th district and as the 76th governor of Georgia. After leaving the White House in 1981, Carter founded The Carter Center; has been a prominent backer of Habitat for Humanity even assisting in the construction of several homes; and in 2002, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." At 84, Jimmy Carter is the second-oldest living former president. Carter is three months and 19 days younger than President George H.W. Bush.
