New Chambliss Ad Criticizes Martin On Savannah Harbor Issue

The Savannah Morning News reports this morning that Republican Saxby Chambliss is up on the air with a new t.v. spot criticizing his Democratic rival for initially opposing the deepening on Savannah's habor.

Deepening the harbor from 42 feet to 48 feet is seen widely as vital to the state's economic future. Backers say it would let the port serve a new generation of super-sized ships and keep its competitive edge.

Martin, a Democrat and former state representative, said in a debate Monday that he won't support the project. But he said later in the day that he is for it.

Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss is airing a TV ad slamming challenger Jim Martin for being opposed to deepening Savannah's harbor.
