Quote of the Day: the Eldrin Bell edition

"It was competence and character over color."

And that, my friends, is the biggest difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to winning elections. Republicans are willing to do whatever it takes to win while Democrats want to have an intellectual conversation.

In that same article, Eldrin Bell, who just won re-election, says his victory was engineered by his campaign's focus on early voting and absentee ballots, and also because he "hired a Republican [consulting] firm."

Now I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of Democrats who probably aren't too pleased that Eldrin Bell hired Republicans to run his campaign in the Democratic primary, but I don't fault Eldrin Bell for doing whatever it took to win.

That's what you're supposed to do.

And that, my friends, is the biggest difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to winning elections. Republicans are willing to do whatever it takes to win while Democrats want to have an intellectual conversation.

I've always said in private conversations that if I was running for office and really wanted to win, I'd hire some Republicans. However, once I got elected, I'd hire some Democrats to advise me.

Why?

Because Democrats know how to govern while Republicans know how to win elections.
