Democrat Jim Powell Picks Up Republican Endorsement in PSC Race

Republican Angela Speir, the outgoing district 4 Public Service Commission member, has picked a successor for her seat and that person doesn't share her political affiliation.

"In this time of skyrocketing energy costs and with the elimination of the Consumers Utility Counsel, it’s more important than ever to elect a good person to the Public Service Commission," Speir said. "Jim Powell has my vote, endorsement, and prayers for his success." [Source: Creative Loafing, "Angela Speir endorses Jim Powell for PSC", September 18, 2008]

In 2002, Angela Speir defeated the Democratic incumbent Lauren "Bubba" McDonald. Since then, McDonald has switched parties and, this year, is seeking to regain his seat on the PSC.

Jim Powell, McDonald's Democratic opponent, is currently fighting to remain on the November ballot after Secretary of State Karen Handel disqualified him for failing to meet the PSC residency requirements.
