Is there a Georgia Slate in the works?

I received the following email from a reader this morning:

I just got an odd email from a website I've never heard of, visited, or subscribed to: georgiaslate.com

It appears that it is trying to make Vernon Jones, Barack Obama, and some Fulton/Clayton/Dekalb democratic candidates seem like they're all part of one slate. It smacks of disenfranchisement or voter confusion. There is no listed contact information or information about what this organization is.

The reader is right.

There is no disclaimer of who is behind this site or who paid for it except for one sentence at the bottom of the page:

"GeorgiaSlate is a trademark of SWATS Enterprises, LLC"

A quick visit to the Secretary of State's website reveals that the registered agent for SWATS Enterprises, LLC is Marvin S. Arrington, Jr., the son of Fulton County Superior Court Judge Marvin S. Arrington, Sr.

However, how many people are going to take the time to investigate who is behind political websites such as Georgia Slate.com?

To be quite frank, not many.

Georgia Slate.com is probably another reason why this law needs to be changed.
