Eric Johnson Picks Up His First Endorsement For Lt. Gov.

The hometown newspaper of the Georgia Senate President Pro Tempore, Eric Johnson, has jumped out early and thrown its suppport behind Sen. Johnson's potential bid for the number two spot in the state.

State Sen. Eric Johnson's decision Thursday to step down as the No. 2 man in the Georgia Senate in December, then run for lieutenant governor, should surprise no one.

Mr. Johnson is well-suited for this post, serving as the de facto lieutenant governor from 2005 through 2006.

State Sen. Eric Johnson (R - Savannah) has said that he will run for Lt. Governor if Casey Cagle makes a bid for Governor in 2010.

There's no doubt that Johnson knows the job. After all, the Savannah Republican did control Georgia's upper legislative chamber when Mark Taylor, a Democrat, held the position that Casey Cagle has now.

The question is. . .can he win?
