Gwinnett Commission Candidate Picks Up Support From Former Opponent

Carol Hassell, former candidate for Gwinnett’s District 1 Commission seat, has endorsed Bruce LeVell in the Republican runoff, Tuesday, August 5, 2008.

"Only one candidate in this runoff race is worthy to be District 1 Commissioner – and that’s Bruce LeVell," said Hassell. "In the time I’ve known him, Bruce has exhibited integrity and honesty. These qualities are essential for a Commissioner."

By a mere 19 votes, Hassell failed to make the Republican runoff. Republican primary vote totals showed Shirley Lasseter first with 2,714, followed by LeVell with 1,888 and Hassell with 1,869. The total was confirmed in a recount certified by the Gwinnett County Board of Registrations and Elections.

"District 1 voters deserve better than a candidate who stoops to distortions, fact twisting and misinformation as a campaign strategy. That means LeVell is the only choice in District 1," added Hassell. "Moreover, this is a crucial election, given the challenges looming for Gwinnett. We simply must have a quality commissioner for District 1. I strongly encourage all District 1 residents who voted in the Republican primary to take the time to cast a vote for LeVell for the good of Gwinnett."

The Republican runoff is Tuesday, August 5th, at regular polling locations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance voting is available only at the office of the Gwinnett Elections and Voter Registration Department, 455 Grayson Highway, Suite 200, Lawrenceville (Town Center shopping center), 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. until Friday, August 1.
