Gail Davenport vs. Gail Buckner

Now that is a tough choice.

I know Gail Davenport. We served together as delegates from the 13th congressional district at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

I know Gail Buckner. She was the 2006 Democratic nominee for Secretary of State and she also did a couple guest blog entries on this site.

The two Gails are facing off against each other in the run-off for the 44th state Senate seat. Both know Clayton County like the back of their hands and both are heavily involved in the community.

Gail Davenport is a member of the NAACP, the Georgia Association of Realtors, the founder and president of the Concerned Black Citizens Coalition of Clayton County, and a delegate to three Democratic National Conventions.

Gail Buckner heads up the Clayton County Boys and Girls Foundation; is a co-founder of co-founder of Rainbow House, an emergency shelter for children; was named "Legislator of the Year" by both the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition and the Georgia Public Health Officials organization; and Buckner is a sixteen-year veteran of the Georgia General Assembly.

With these two women, voters in the 44th district have two candidates with impeccable credentials who will both work hard to represent their constituents well under the Gold Dome.

To tell you the truth, if I lived in the 44th district, I'd probably flip a coin over which candidate to support in the run-off.
